This book is a great illustration of the 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach. Brown describes all of the many story lines that made this tournament so compelling. Stories of Tiger Woods' domination, Jack Nicklaus' final US Open; memorials to Payne Stewart and many other story lines are captured by Brown's words and telling photos.

The Making of a Radical: A Political Autobiography
Published in Paperback by Chelsea Green Pub Co (September, 2000)
Author: Scott Nearing
Average review score:

Trying to live life as it is...
Each human being's life is itself of great value and meaning.
And so, life should be lived just as life itself, not as a means for other doctrines or propaganda. No one is expendable.
The author also gives a sharp insight into monetary economy in which we live in. Day after day we are getting subject to the Lord of Money, and money becomes our Lord.
So parodoxically, the more money one make, the more subject to money we get. That's absurd.
This book shares much in common with 'To have or To Be' by Erich Fromm.
The author is a real humanist, who wanted every living being live the life as it deserves. Not being deceived by the illusions that we meet in our daily lives.
I really want to recommend this book to all those who looks upon all living beings as a united One, each not a separate pieces of life against life.

The Great Humanist, Scott Nearing
Many people try to live keeping their conviction. However it is difficult to keep it and it is even not easy to have a right conviction. Scott Nearing was the sociologist who practiced the right things that he believed and lived all his life as a naturalist. He lived for true convictions. After reading this book, I reflected my past. At least I think, it could be fortunate to have a opportunity to think of our spiritual slackening in the midst of material prosperity. I recommend this autobiography.

The Man Who Would Be F. Scott Fitzgerald
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (March, 1993)
Author: David Handler
Average review score:

What a read!
I have never been shooshed so much while reading a book - I was chuckling at Handler's wit every other page! Hoagy is a great character and the plot is a pretty twisty one as well. A great read! I've said it many a time to emphasize how good a book was, but this is the first time I actually FINISHED A BOOK IN ONE SITTING! I couldn't read it fast enough. GOOD STUFF!

Handler is a scream.
Handler is a scream. His stories are orginal and his characters are very lively. No trends are spared from Handler's savage pen. I hope Handler enjoys writing the Hoagy series as much as I enjoy reading it

Ideal para el encargado de mantenimiento y actualización.
Cuando conocí esta obra me quedé extasiado por la amplitud con que trata el tema del hardware. Una verdadera joya si se considera la poca bibliografía en castellano que existe al respecto.

Mara-Serengeti: A Photographer's Paradise
Published in Hardcover by Fountain Pr Ltd (January, 2001)
Authors: Jonathan Scott, Angela Scott, and Caroline Taggart
Average review score:

The most beautiful book ever published
Having been to this area of Africa three times, twice in the Masi Mara and once to the Serengeti this book brings me back over and over again to this heaven on earth. The combination of drawings, photographs, and writing of Jonathan and Angela Scott are outstanding. This is my all time favorite book. The love these authors feel for this area and the animals and people who live there comes through on every page. For anyone who has the slightest interest in wild animals, ecology, photography, art, travel or Africa this book is a must have. Awesome!

Beyond the Photo Safari!
Mara-Serengeti captures the essence of living in the Mara-Serengeti region in a way that you would not experience in a dozen safaris to Africa. The images of predators, prey, wildlife migrations, and the Masai bring you close up during moments of blazing color in the sky and dramatic action in the grasslands. The images are improved by thoughtful essays that draw on the photographers' many years of experience with these subjects.

The animal photographs are mostly grouped by subject and include lions, leopards, zebras, wart hogs, impalas, cheetahs, wildebeest, hyenas, crocodiles, vultures, and wild dogs. The subjects are usually of animal families, migration, killing, and eating in often symbolic settings for these activities. The Masai images come at the book's end, sort of completing the evolutionary progression of the food chain.

You probably have heard of the Serengeti. It's a vast grassland in Tanzania, and is now protected as the Serengeti National Park there. The Masai Mara National Reserve is in neighboring Kenya, and the two lands are connected geographically, if not politically. A map in the book will display all of this for you. This site is the area where humans probably first walked the face of the Earth, and the dwindling of these remarkable spaces marks the potential for us to lose our ability to visualize our roots.

The name, Serengeti, in Masai means "land of endless space." The closest we have to this habitat in the United States that I have seen is the brief enclosure in the wild animal park that the San Diego zoo maintains near Escondido, California.

The action photographs impressed me the most. These show predators literally flying and spinning in the air just before they land while the terrorized prey wheels desperately away. The action is captured almost like a key play in a sporting event. That's pretty typical of the photography here. The images emphasize action and perspectives that you do not yet have, and this book will add wonderfully to your sense of the special nature of the grasslands of Africa.

After you have finished expanding your vision of natural selection, I suggest that you think about the ways that our lives are enhanced by understanding our origins and how our lives are not. How can we draw inspiration from nature and stand in our most meaningful role?

Look for what few have seen . . . always! Truth will emerge from your trial.

Martyrdom: The Final Triumph of Faith
Published in Paperback by Bob Jones University Press (January, 2002)
Authors: Scott Anderson and Dan Cruver
Average review score:

I couldn't put it down. This book is a treasure....
Compelling. Convicting. Encouraging.
This book inspires the reader to live a passionate, God-centered, Gospel-filled life as they study what it means to suffer for Christ. Much more than a history of Christian martyrs, this book powerfully equips the reader to see the purpose of God in suffering so that their faith might triumph in the day of adversity. A must read for Pastors, Missionaries, Seminarians, and all involved in Christian ministry. The message of this book is vital for the Church in our day.

Not For Thin Blooded Christians!
This is a book that forces the reader to think seriously about the believer's relationship to suffering. Jesus said, "The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you" (John 15:20). Jesus' statement is something with which believers in Jesus must come to terms. This book helps you come to terms with it. It does not put you on a guilt trip. Rather, it points you to Christ as the power of God to enable you to embrace persecution and suffering for His name's sake when it comes. The title might better be read as "Martyrdom: The Final Triumph of Faith IN THE GOSPEL."

A must read!

The Martyrs of Columbine: Faith and the Politics of Tragedy
Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (01 November, 2002)
Author: Justin Watson
Average review score:

A Thoughtful Examination of the Columbine Martyr Stories
Watson's book belongs in the collection of anyone interested in what happened at Columbine and why it happened. Rather than trying to discuss all of the issues that swirl around this event, the author concentrates on the "Do you believe in God?" stories associated with victims Cassie Bernall and Rachel Scott. More than simply trying to determine whether these stories are true - he doesn't think they are -- he examines how and why these stories took on a wider cultural and political significance. Particularly interesting is how these "martyrs" got used to advance some of the pet causes of the Religious Right, such as getting prayer back in public schools. While those who continue to believe Cassie and Rachel really were martyred will dislike Watson's conclusions, it is hard to see how they could argue with his thorough and thoughtful discussion.

Great Book That Looks Into The Controversies Of Columbine
I read this book not too long ago and I think that it's a great book that looks into some of the controversies of Columbine(i.e. whether Rachel Scott was mentioned in the "Basement Tapes" or not, whether Cassie Bernall was asked whether she believed in God or wehther it was another person[who survived]).

From all I've learned about what happened, I'm very skeptical that the Rachel and Cassie stories are true.

I think that it's a rush to judgement to say that certain stroies are true(especially when there is evidence that suggest otherwise)and I think that the main lesson of this book is that "don't take things at face value".

The Mirror Suite
Published in Paperback by Diabolical Kitten Publishing (01 September, 2000)
Authors: Scott N. Kaeff and Scot N. Kaeff
Average review score:

Best poetry collection I've read in years
"The Mirror Suite," from start to finish, is amazing. Beautifully presented free form verse with a depth seldom present in modern poetry. But it is not so esoteric that the average reader would go away mumbling about not understanding. The situations described are present in all lives and Kaeff touches points that most never reach. Excellent work.

Expressive Poetry
This short book of poetry was by far the best so far that Mr. Kaeff has written. His thoughts were collected and insightful with words even I could understand. I could see in my mind's eye the picture he was presenting. Truly a good book of modern poetry!
